I’m thrilled to be returning to Herman’s Jazz Club—my first show there in over a year. This room holds a kind of magic for me. The ambiance is intimate and warm; the tables are set just right so you can feel connected to the whole room while still disappearing into the music if that’s what you want. It’s a place where listening comes first, and that makes it very special.

This performance is a tribute to Nina Simone, and the timing couldn’t be better. It’s Black History Month, and Nina’s birthday falls on February 21—a perfect moment to honor her legacy. Why Nina? Her fierce commitment to equality and freedom resonates deeply with me. Those values were shaping the world in the 1960s—when I was a little girl and my own values were forming. Nina didn’t just sing; she led. Many of the songs we’ll perform were anthems of the Civil Rights Movement—music that helped change history.

I’m also excited about the band joining me for this show:

  • Hans Verhoeven – drums
  • Ross Macdonald – bass
  • Attila Fias – piano

They are extraordinary musicians and beautiful human beings. I’ve worked with each of them in different settings over the years, but this will be the first time the four of us share the stage together. At our recent rehearsal, the chemistry was undeniable—something special is happening, and I can’t wait to bring it to you.

Make a night of it. Herman’s offers a varied and delicious dinner menu for anyone who wants to eat before the show. It’s recommended to arrive early and enjoy your meal ahead of time so you can fully settle in once the music begins at seven. The bar is fantastic, the staff are genuinely friendly, and there are specialty drinks on offer—often better priced than many clubs in town. There’s really no reason not to relax, indulge a little, and enjoy the full experience.

Getting there is easy. Herman’s is on View Street, just off the downtown core. There’s a secure, well-lit parkade right next door that’s open late, so you can enjoy the evening without worrying about your car.

Tickets: I recommend purchasing in advance at hermannsjazz.com (just follow the prompts). Tables for small groups can be reserved ahead of time, and they are selling very quickly.  If it’s not sold out, tickets will also be available at the door.

Doors open at 5:30 pm

Show starts at 7:00 pm

If you love great music, powerful stories, and the kind of night that stays with you long after the last note fades—this one’s for you. I’d love to see you there.
