Hello friends! It’s been a whopping 4 months since we launched the website and finally another message! Hurray for life and living!
Preparing the studio space saw a flurry of sanding blocks and paint brushing in mid-March, and completed just in time for the arrival of David Restivo! Juno-award winning pianist and composer from Toronto, he made the opening of Studio 401 a most memorable time. With Kelby MacNayr on drums, John Lee on bass, and moi singing, we had a blast. Not only stellar musicians, they are all wonderful people and shared the stories that came with some of David’s original works.
With that first run, things like lights and seating were tweaked for the next show in April, that featured Misha Piatigorsky on piano. Misha recorded with me on the debut album, First Off the Floor in 2011, and like on that recording, his musical interpretations are out of this world. Check out his website for sound samples. Based in New York, but coming to perform in Victoria a couple times a year, we were ecstatic to have him here, along with his regular drummer Rudy Royston, and John Lee on bass. Once again, audience members were bedazzled by the amazing music in such an intimate setting.
Friday, May 25th, 8 p.m. Misha Piatigorsky is coming to the Studio for an intimate piano house concert. I will sing a few songs with him too.
